Ian Evans
International Sports College Australia students were recently offered a window into the industry in which they are poised to enter through, at the fifth annual Sydney Student Sports Summit, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
The Sports Summit, held in June 2022 and organised by ISCA General Manager Ian Evans, was attended by close to 50 students and staff who were addressed by a dozen guest speakers, all experts in their fields within the sports industry.
“The purpose of the Sports Summit was to bring to life the strategic goals and values of ISCA – namely, to offer a first-class student experience; to provide a means by which our students can engage with industry leaders within the sports sector; and finally, to demonstrate to our students that ISCA is committed to a culture of excellence,” Sports Summit Director and ISCA General Manager Ian Evans, said.
The keynote speakers included NSW Waratahs & NSW Rugby CEO, Paul Doorn, and Samara Govender from Football Australia. Both spoke about the upcoming Women’s FIFA & Rugby World Cups in Australia, and the legacy these events will provide the next generation of athletes, coaches & sports administrators.
Other guest speakers were equipped with strong backgrounds in the fields of sports marketing, sponsorship, fan engagement, facility operations and management, athlete career, education and welfare, coaching, and high performance.
“The Sports Summit was an outstanding success,” Evans said. “The venue (Bradman Media Centre) overlooking the majestic Sydney Cricket Ground was simply world-class, and to have a range of expert panelists from sports such as football, rugby union, AFL, cricket, basketball and rugby league speaking to our students about the innovative changes within their respective sports was an amazing way for our students to connect what they learn in the classroom to what is occurring in the professional sports sector.”
ISCA student & NSW Waratahs intern, Katja Yorke, attended the Sports Summit and said the event gave her the opportunity to network with fellow students and sports industry professionals.
“The summit really opened my eyes to the roles and responsibilities of sports industry professionals and inspired me to continue pursuing my passion of working in the sports sector,” she added.
As a part of the sponsorship community with the NSW Waratahs as a Major Partner of the Gen-Blue Academy, ISCA welcomed Waratahs boss, Paul Doorn, who commended the Sports Summit as an excellent feature of the ISCA program.
“The Summit is significant for a number of reasons. It provides a great opportunity for sport management students to not only hear and learn from leading experts, but to also further strengthen the partnership between NSW Rugby & the College.
ISCA thank their panelists, the venue and their staff and students for a great day at the SCG.
